Job Summary

 

We are seeking a highly motivated and detail-oriented Reinsurance Accountant/Financial Analyst to join our team, reporting directly to the VP of Reinsurance. This role blends technical accounting responsibilities with financial analysis, requiring a solid foundation in accounting principles and sharp analytical skills.

The ideal candidate will have 3+ years of accounting and financial analysis experience, with a strong track record of preparing financial reports, compiling financial statements, and ensuring compliance with regulatory standards. Responsibilities include managing month-end and year-end closings, maintaining the general ledger, reconciling accounts, processing accounts payable and receivable, preparing tax filings, and conducting financial data analysis to support business decision-making.

We are looking for a quick learner and proactive problem-solver with excellent Excel and reconciliation skills, strong attention to detail, and the ability to work independently as well as collaboratively across departments.

 

 

Job Duties

 

  • Drive financial accuracy through the preparation and analysis of general ledger journal entries and account activity.
  • Lead the month-end close process, ensuring timely and insightful financial reporting that supports strategic decision-making.
  • Perform detailed reconciliations to maintain the integrity of financial data across all accounts.
  • Oversee cash management activities, including the monitoring and maintenance of Trust Account balances for optimal liquidity and compliance.
  • Conduct in-depth rate adequacy assessments and analyze loss experience trends to support risk evaluation and pricing strategies.
  • Prepare and submit accurate, timely regulatory filings in accordance with industry and government requirements.
  • Collaborate on high-impact special projects that enhance financial processes, reporting capabilities, and organizational efficiency.
  • Other duties that may be assigned by leadership

 

Job Qualifications

 

  • Bachelor’s degree with 3+ years’ work in accounting and financial analysis, preferably within the insurance or reinsurance industry
  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related field.
  • Experience with reinsurance accounting, including understanding of treaty and facultative contracts (preferred but not required).
  • Proven ability to prepare financial reports, statements, and reconciliations with a high level of accuracy.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills with attention to detail.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills; able to present financial information clearly to non-financial stakeholders.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Excel, including advanced functions such as VLOOKUP, pivot tables, and data analysis tools.
  • Understanding of databases and data extraction
  • Experience working with General Ledger Programs. QuickBooks and Oracle are a plus.
